Just like the first book this holds so much information that is vital for any designer. As stated by Ram himself this book has the potential to save you years of figuring this stuff out for yourself. That is also an understatement as some of this stuff would take you a lifetime over to learn.
Reading this book has provided with insight and shortcuts that would normally take YEARS to obtain if I was to go about my normal ways. I came across this book through a friend and ever since have been so grateful to be given the chance to expedite my knowledge with how to go about getting the right advice/mentorship directly from someone who has achieved this very thing. Already it has proven to help me and my career and so appreciative of the knowledge that is within the book. The material also applies not to just designers but anybody looking to get inspired to push for greatness. Highly recommended!
How to get a Mentor as a designer is a useful guide for ANYONE looking for advice and motivation to find a mentor, especially useful for designers (but I can see some of the direction fitting in other careers as well).
This book will inspire, and ignite that little fire within.
A tell it like it is, with no sugar coating... Ram explains very clearly through his own personal EXPERIENCE of how to achieve the goals as a designer, such things as finding a mentor, what steps that can be taken to get where you want to be.
Thank you Ram for lighting a path for others.

Very well designed book. Put together in a manner that is easily digestible without being overwhelming. I crushed the first 50 pages in an evening then decided if I wanted to get anything out of it that I should start following Ram's steps. I like how he provides checklists at the end of each section to help build a sense of forward movement and achievement while helping you stay focused.
I am already all too well aware of the importance of having mentors to move forward in my career. It seems that this book is helping me to focus on the right mentor for my needs and how to realize that.
Think of this as a workbook and it won't work if all you do is read it. You have to do the exercises.
Through Ram's guidance, I have discovered and begun to develop relationships with my mentors.
Ram's book is one of the best networking guides I have ever read. So many books written to aspiring creatives feel condescending and are not helpful at all but 'How To Get A Mentor' is not like that at all! Ram outlines the exact steps you should take and give helpful advice on how to achieve your goals. I love that the book provides space for your own ideas and that each section has an "estimated reading time" (because creatives are super busy all the time). I plan on reading this book every time my career goals change.
This book isn't just for designers; it's for anyone looking to find a mentor.
Like Chase Jarvis says "Get designer out of the cover, this works for anyone."
I got a copy of this book in AIGA while Ram was on the USA tour.
Simply resumed the book is great, short chapters (easy to read), estimated times of reading and completing by each section.
I like that the steps include space to write in the book and checklist, that's about as any book can hold you accountable for your actions.
What surprised me about this book is that the first 6 steps has everything to do with YOU. Make a promise to your self. Who are you? What you want? Why you want it? What's preventing you from getting it? How can you overcome it?
Very practical book, it guides you through each step. For the listeners there is a audiobook version in the authors website.
For the people that understand that having a mentor is great, this book is a great tool.
This is one of those reads that lights a spark in your soul and forces you to chase your passions. I think I'm always looking for books like that - being in the creative field myself. It is eloquently written; I felt as though the book was conversing with me through Ram's effortless writing style. I think the book is also incredibly versatile - it is not overwhelming, but just enough - good for anyone of any age in really any field. I also really enjoyed the interactivity of it. Ram outlines steps to obtaining a mentor, but has area that prompt you to write down your thoughts (which in my opinion, helps digest the material and make it actionable). I'm also a huge fan of quote and there are SO many yummy quotes throughout this book.
On that note - "Show up, especially in the darkness" and "light the way". <3
